Surprising Observations in Today’s Youth

While out running errands with my kids tonight we stopped to pick up dinner on the way home. My daughter stayed in the car while my son and I went in to place and wait on our order. We made our selections, paid, and then sat in the two chairs beside the restaurant doors.

While waiting, T-Bone and I chatted about his day at school. As all good moms do so well I was only listening with half a mind while I observed the few patrons of the restaurant. Suddenly, my son jumps out of his chair and heads out the front door! Continue reading →

Mom, can we go geocaching?

T-Bone called me yesterday to ask if he could spend the night at my house. After I said yes, he then asked if we could go geocaching – I think this was the real draw to spending more time with me this week! 😉 Fine by me, the weather has finally turned to spring and any chance to get out in the sun and warm weather after the past six miserably cold and dreary months gets a definite yes from me!

I picked him up after work and we headed to a local city park that had three or four caches. It was such a gorgous evening! We hit the hiking trails towards our first cache. When we got close the app on my phone indicated it was just a bit off the trail. Seeing where a side trail or three had been made we started exploring the area to find our treasure.

Slippery slope - it's a lot steeper than the picture shows.

Finally – A Gorgeous Geocaching Day!

It’s almost the middle of April and we FINALLY got a spring day! We’ve had two close ones so far but today was just perfect – 74 degrees and sunny all day (I got a sunburn!!), minimal wind (this character has hindered the other two sunny days) and not a bite of chill in the air (another meanie of our first two days).
See? Spring!

My daughter was with me all weekend so I told her to dress for adventure – we were NOT going home after church. I was not going to waste our first real spring day doing anything at home; we were going to get out and about! After the service we usually hang around and chat with some friends for a bit, but today we said just a quick “Hi” & “Goodbye” and we were off! Continue reading →

Mind of Chaos

How easy it would be, to sit here, telling the world that my struggles were all due to outside sources, that my 2am, scattered-sleep nights were caused by a destructive family life, or the villainous boys I met in high school. How easy it would be to place the blame on undeserved circumstances. I am a strong believer in the “we make our own choices” concept of life, and that life does not discriminate in placing innocent people, in hard paths of being. For me, the life-defining choice was to allow myself to fall victim to my own mind, and for my inside, tyrannical anxiety, to control my outside actions. That moment, whenever it might have been, has visited me in nightmare-like ways, all throughout my young adulthood.
